How to track QR code scans – and what the statistics mean
Short answer: only dynamic QR codes can be counted, because every scan passes through their short link. Static codes go straight to the content, so nobody – not even us – can count them.
What you see in GITECHY QR
- Scans per day for the last 30 days.
- Countries (from the network, not GPS).
- Phone system: iOS, Android, Windows, macOS.
- Device: phone, tablet, computer.
What the numbers mean
A scan is one opening of the code. The same person scanning twice counts twice. Compare codes and periods rather than reading single numbers – e.g. the poster in the shop window against the one at the counter.
Tips for useful statistics
- One code per place or campaign – then you know which one works.
- Change one thing at a time (frame text, size, position).
- Add UTM parameters to the destination address to see the visits in Google Analytics too.
Privacy
We count without IP addresses and without tracking cookies on the short links. You see totals, never who scanned.
Questions
For how long can I see statistics?
My codes shows the last 30 days. One-time dynamic codes show statistics while editing is included (1 year, renewable); plan codes while the plan runs.
Can I track a static code?
Only indirectly: add UTM parameters to the web address inside it and look at your website analytics.
