Why QR codes stop working – and how to avoid it

1. The free trial ended

Many generators create a “free” dynamic code: the code contains their short link, which forwards to your page. When the trial ends, the short link shows an error or a payment page. Your printed flyers now lead nowhere – unless you pay a monthly fee.

How to avoid it: read what happens after the trial before you print. With GITECHY QR there is no trial: static codes are paid once and contain your content directly; dynamic codes are paid once and include 5 years of forwarding in writing.

2. The subscription was cancelled

Same mechanism: dynamic codes depend on the service. Know how long codes keep working after cancelling. Our plans keep forwarding for 90 days after the end, then show a page with a Continue button – never someone else’s ad.

3. The page behind the code moved

A static code always opens the same address. If your website changes, set up a redirect from the old address – or use a dynamic code next time and just change the destination.

4. Printing problems

• Code too small for the distance.
• No white border around the code.
• Low contrast (light code, coloured background).
• Logo too big, or corners covered.
• Glossy surface reflecting light.

Checklist before printing

• Static if the content never changes – it works forever, even without us.
• Dynamic only from a service that tells you clearly how long forwarding is included.
• Test the printed proof with two phones.
• Keep the vector file (PDF/EPS/SVG) for reprints.
